The first of Samsung’s tablets, the Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000, was one mighty tablet that runs on a 1.0 GHz processor and donned with a TFT capacitive touchscreen. The tablet first had Android 2.2 Froyo onboard and was later upgraded to Gingerbread. Upgrading the tablet to Ice Cream Sandwich was even made possible because of the existence of custom ROMs created by brilliant third-party developers.
Upgrading your tablet to faster operating systems is one thing you can do either officially or through custom ROMs. And, when we talk about custom ROMs, we can’t just proceed on flashing them without a custom recovery installed in our device. Pre Requisites:
1. ROM flashing require you to wipe your internal memory data, hence you required to backup your device Use Super backup
2. Make sure your device have at least 60% battery power. If your phone shut down during installation then there is good chance to brick your device.
3. You must have USB Driver Installed for Galaxy Tab 7 P1000 in your PC.
4. Make sure USB Debugging is enabled otherwise it’s won’t be possible to transfer file between PC and Galaxy Tab 7 P1000.
5. Your device have latest CWM version 6.0.4.4 and up or TWRP 2.6.3.1 and up installed.

This tutorial is only for Galaxy Tab 7 P1000. Don’t try this guide on any other Android device. Also, we are not responsible for any damage caused due to the instruction given in this page. Try this at your own risk. However, it is very unlikely that your device will be damaged if you follow all the instructions as it is which are mentioned in procedure.

How to Install Android 4.4.4 KitKat based Omni (Nightly) ROM on Galaxy Tab 7 P1000
- Connect your device to PC using USB cable and then copy downloaded files to the SD card of your device. Important: Don’t extract any files.
- Disconnect USB and then turn off your Galaxy Tab 7 P1000.
- Now, boot into recovery mode. To do so, press and hold Volume Up and Power button together until Samsung logo flash twice and then leave the button. You should see recovery menu soon. In recovery use Volume Keys to navigate between option and Power to select an option. if recovery is not installed intall as follows else go to step Custom recovery Section Ends Here……
- Requirements-
- Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 running on stock Android 2.3 Gingerbread
- A Windows PC
- Your tablet’s USB cable
- 7-Zip, WinRAR or any other program that can extract TAR archive files
- Download the following to your computer:
- Technomancer’s Kernel with ClockworkMod Recovery 5 (cwm-5-p1.tar, 5 MB, md5sum: e67e61a27741069e43bf9f790bf35b10)
- Heimdall Suite 1.3.2(heimdall-suite-1.3.2-win32-.zip, 9.6 MB)
- Heimdall Suite requires Microsoft C++ Redistributable installed on your computer it to run.
- Make sure your tablet’s battery is charged up to 75% or more to avoid interruptions during the process.
- Backup all personal data on your tablet to make sure you have a copy of your personal data (e.g., contacts, SMS, MMS, Internet settings, Wi-Fi passwords, and the like) in case the procedure in this guide erases such data.
Instructions to Install Cutom recovery
Extract the contents of Heimdall Suite 1.3.2 to obtain a folder named Heimdall Suite. Drivers and the Heimdall Suite application are found inside the folder.Connect the other end of the USB cable to the computer. Do not connect the tablet just yet.- Switch off your tablet.
- Reboot the tablet into Download Mode. To do this, press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons as you connect the other end of the USB cable to your tablet.
- On your PC, double-click the zadig.exe file found in the Heimdall Suite folder. This tool allows you to easily install the USB drivers needed for Heimdall to be able to communicate with your tablet.
- Select Options and choose List All Devices from the menu. You will see a drop-down list.
- From the drop-down list, select either Samsung USB Composite Device or Gadget Serial and choose Install Driver. After this, Heimdall can now be safely used on your computer.
- NOTE: A prompt may appear saying that the installer is unable to verify the publisher of the driver. If this happens, select “Install this driver anyway.”
- After installation of the drivers, unplug your tablet from the USB cable.
- Turn your tablet off.
- Reboot the tablet into Download Mode again (as in step 4).
- Untar Technomancer’s Kernel. You will be getting a file named zImage. Copy the zImage file into the Heimdall Suite folder. The file should be inside the same folder as heimdall.exe.
- On your PC, open a command prompt. Change directory to where heimdall.exe is located.
- Enter the following at the command prompt:
heimdall flash --kernel zImage
- The command above instructs Heimdall to flash the kernel to your tablet. You will see a blue progress indicator displayed on your tablet’s screen.
- After flashing of the kernel is done, your tablet will boot automatically.

- . recovery Installed Then Perform a Nandroid backup of your existing ROM that you can restore later if this new ROM not work or you want to go back into your previous ROM. To perform a backup, select Backup and Restore, then on the next screen, select Backup again. Go back to main recovery menu after backup is complete.
- Now, perform data wiping task. To do so, select wipe data/factory reset, then select Yes on next screen to confirm your action. Wait few minutes till the data wipe is complete. Now come back to CWM recovery main menu. Select wipe cache partition and after wiping process done, select Wipe Dalvik Cache under advance option to perform Dalvik cache wiping.
- Select install zip from sdcard, then select choose zip from sdcard. Now, locate the Omni Zip file that you copied earlier in Step 1 and select it by pressing Power button. Confirm installation by selecting Yes – Install .zip on the next screen. The ROM installation will begin.
- Once the ROM installation process end, repeat the step 6 but choose the GApps_Standard_4.4.4_signed.zip file instead of ROM zip to install the Google apps package.
- Once installation process end, repeat the step 6 but choose the UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip file instead of ROM zip to root your device.
- When installation is completed, go back to the main recovery menu and select reboot system now to reboot your Galaxy Tab 7 P1000 and boot up into Android 4.4.4 KitKat ROM Omni.
- Returning to Previous ROM: To go back to your previous ROM, boot into recovery, select backup and restore then restore your previous ROM by selecting it from the list.
Tutorial For TWRP Recovery Users:
- Connect your device to PC using USB cable and then copy downloaded files to the SD card of your device. Important: Don’t extract any files.
- Disconnect USB and then turn off your Galaxy Tab 7 P1000.
- Now, boot into recovery mode. To do so, press and hold Volume Up and Power button together until Samsung logo flash twice and then leave the button. You should see recovery menu soon.
- Create a Backup using TWRP Backup Option.
- Perform a Factory Reset (this will delete all apps and their settings and game progress). To do this, Tap on Wipe, then at the bottom of the screen do a Swipe on the ‘Swipe to factory reset‘ option.
- Now its time to add zip file for flashing. Tap on Install, then browse to the location where you saved the files and tap on the Omni Zip file. Then tap on Add More Zips, and add GApps_Standard_4.4.4_signed.zip and UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip. Now at the bottom of the screen, do a swipe on the Swipe to confirm flash option to begin flashing.
- When installation is completed, go back to the main recovery menu and tap on Reboot and then, tap on System to reboot your Galaxy Tab 7 P1000 and boot up into Android 4.4.4 KitKat ROM Omni.
- Returning to Previous ROM: To go back to your previous ROM, boot into recovery, select Backup then through Restore option, restore your previous ROM by selecting it from the list.
